Time of Monsters

12 songs of grief and love, solidarity and resistance.

Time of Monsters is a powerful collection of songs written in the midst of the genocide in Gaza. Featuring 11 original songs and a cover of Macklemore’s “Hind’s Hall 2”, the album captures a moment in history as it unfolds, moving between grief, rage, love, solidarity and resistance.

At its heart is the movement between the personal “I” and the collective “we”. Some songs inhabit the intimate experience of witnessing an unfolding catastrophe: the helplessness, anger, sorrow and questions of responsibility that come with confronting such overwhelming violence. Others turn outward, finding expression in the protest and action to demand an end to the genocide.

Musically, Time of Monsters is a compelling and emotionally charged body of work, showcasing Phil Monsour’s considerable experience as a recording artist and songwriter. The songs combine skilful musicianship, powerful arrangements and evocative melodies with lyrics that are poetic, deeply moving and unflinching. Monsour has a gift for finding the human story within immense political events, crafting songs that are as intimate and reflective as they are passionate and defiant. His songwriting gives voice to complex emotions without losing sight of the power and beauty of music.

For Phil Monsour, this is not a new engagement. Time of Monsters draws on more than two decades of songwriting, organising and solidarity work for Palestine. It brings together the personal experience of confronting genocide with the experience of an organiser trying to transform grief and outrage into collective action.

Written in real time, these songs are both a musical document of an extraordinary period and a reflection on what it means to remain human in an inhuman time. They ask what songs can do when words seem inadequate, what solidarity means when it must be sustained, and how individual voices can become part of something greater.

The title evokes a world in crisis, where the old order is collapsing and a new one struggles to emerge. But this is not simply an album about monsters. It is about the people who refuse indifference: those who keep organising, showing up, singing and standing together.

Time of Monsters is a record of witness and resistance, despair and hope. A reminder that the personal becomes political, the political becomes collective, and the collective becomes a song.

We are here. We have witnessed this. We will not look away. And we will continue.
