Hell and back

We can begin
you catch a down bound train

Stars in your eyes a heavy heavy load
the ticket to hold to hell and back again.
In the city shine the bright lights
the city holds so many promises to be broken.

Stars in your eyes the words of a friend
You’ll take one-step forward two steps back Then you’ll be back again.

Two thousand miles Two thousand miles
Two thousand miles show no mercy

Walking down the road you see someone
Coming up the other way who says
Haven’t I seen your face before in another
time in another place and isn’t funny how
In such a such a small place such big place
And all the people that you meet and you
Say well what are you doing here anyway

Hell and back again

My Spirit

You are my spirit
You are my heart
You are my eyes
You are my love

My spirit touches me
My spirit watches over me
My spirit is carried in the wind
My spirit rises from smoldering flames

You are
You are
You are
You are

My heart burns with love
My heart flows with the water
My eyes peer through the blazing sun
My eyes cry tears of love

You are my spirit
You are my heart
You are my eyes
You are my love

Touch me call my name

You are my spirit
You are my heart
You are my eyes
You are my love

You are my spirit
You are my heart
You are my eyes
You are my love

The Promised Land

The shadows are lifting form over my heart
The fires are burning deep in my soul
Now the hiding is over step into the sun
For tomorrow a change it will come

I have no concern for what will happen to me
But like anyone I would like to live long and free
I am lucky I am already free
Love has come and love has taken me

The light of the day washes over me
The new morning will come
For I have been to the top of the mountain
I have seen the glory

I have no fear
Nothing will turn us around

I don’t know what will happen now
There are many many difficult days ahead
But I am lucky I am already free
Love has come and love has taken me

On the road

Somewhere in the distance
down the dirty and winding track
Come all the searches who say
we are never going back

Into the never ending
down the hollow road
Is the silent echo of a dream
turned cold

Swore we'd live there someday
Swore we live for ever

Chasing the dream on the road to freedom
Chasing the dream on the road to glory
And freedom

Sometimes it is lonely
And it is more than you can bare
They make you feel so damn small
They just don’t care

Swore we'd live there someday
Swore we'd live for ever

Chasing the dream on the road to freedom
Chasing the dream on the road to glory
And freedom

Freedom

In the Morning

I touched you in the morning
In the sunshine
It was like I was floating in time
The dust danced on the beams of light
You turned your head around

In the morning

You could hear the woman next door fighting with her kids
They didn’t want to go to school they never did
As you raised yourself up off the bed
You forced a sleepy smile

In the morning

The city all around was full of that wake up sound
And we spoke again about trying to get away

It’s the evening and nothing has changed
It s the evening and it’s still the same

Turned on its head

Can you see the flags flying in the wind?
Can you see the hands holding them?
And waving them with such certainty
As all around the world turns on its head

I don’t believe any more that things are just getting better
There is so much suffering everywhere you care to look
The images we see don't feed the helpless
They just feed our guilty conscious
When all around the world turns on its head

My generation has no future and has nothing left to say
Nostalgia is the luxury of those who have made history
No one is listening anyway as all around the world
Turns on its head

I follow this road I don’t know where it will take me
And when comes judgment day I pray for mercy
I tried it all and now I am wondering how do you stay standing
When the world turns on it head
Turns on its head

Remember

This is a lesson for the powerful
Those who make the rules
Remember how the mighty fall

Those who make history
Those who claim destiny
Remember how the mighty fall

When the pages are burnt on your book of who's who
When the sun rises on your black box of tricks
When your windows are broken and the illusion slips
Remember the mighty fall

Those who make the rules
Those who fool the fools
Remember how the mighty fall
Remember the mighty fall

Shame

This is a story I’m not sure you’ll want to hear
Of a young man found hanging in a prison cell
This is an indictment this is a shame we all share
This is the guilt that runs through white complacent hands

I was in the city one night I saw a fight
Two drunks falling over each other one was black and one was white
The police came they let the white man walk away
He even taunted the blackman as the were dragging him away

I stood at my car as the police arrested the black people in the street
Every night the pub take their money then they push them out into the heat
Then I pulled up at the lights behind the prison van the people inside screamed at me to try and make me understand

Then they drove away from me off into the night
I could hear the screams echo down the quite and empty streets
I read in the paper the next day of the man found hanging in a prison cell and I knew for certain he was no criminal

This is an indictment this is a shame we all share
This is the guilt that runs through white complacent hands

Pink and Blue

I realise what I said before was out of line
I won’t say those things anymore.
I will give to you something that I owe and
I will say to you that I’ve still got a long way to go

Ah pink and blue the joke is on me and on you.
Ah pink and blue the joke is on me and on you.

Now you could say nothing has really changed
All the images they are just the same
Now all this grit just leaves a bad taste in my mouth,
When I can help myself I try and spit it out.

Day by day we do all they say
We get up and go to work and earn our pay
But sometimes you’ve got to let nothing stand in your way
Never stop working for a brand new day

Wittenoom

We were almost grateful work was hard to get
We stared out in the asbestos pit for a few quid a week
But there are something’s in this land
Better left alone and in our thousands we scraped the filth that buried us

He said lord have no mercy on those that crucified us
They know damn well what they do

Anna came to this country and now she is left alone
Her man had so much sickness he left some in their home
It was just for a while until they got on their feet but the mine was a life sentence
It was them they sentenced me

He said lord have no mercy on those that crucified us
They know damn well what they do

Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties stare at us in court, as we slowly die they won't loose this is their game
But to all those men who sentence me to this life of misery I say to you you are damned

He said lord have no mercy on those that crucified us
They know damn well what they do

He said lord have no mercy on those that crucified us
They know damn well what they do

Cover me

When love turns to anger
Only time will tell
Who owns your body
Who runs this hell

Cover me

Sometimes I cannot bear the waiting
Or the misery
That is inside you
That is inside me

I want you to cover me

Ever feel like you have been taken for a ride
Ever feel like going over to the other side
Cover me

When you are on the outside
On the edge looking in
At all the mystery at all the sin
You want something else
You want something more
And all your desires come the fore
I want you to cover me
Cover me

They say that truth is power
Then let it wash over me
And to those who throw the stones
Let freedom be

Hand into the fire

I knew a name I knew a number
I knew a song I knew what day it was

But I still don’t know how something they say is wrong
can feel so right

I lost my head I put my hand into the fire
I lost my head I put my hand into the fire

On the road there are seekers
There are finders there are keepers
